Clash Royale: Best Evolved Skeleton Army Decks

Let's take a closer look at one of the latest evos.

This season in Clash Royale has seen two new evolutions, one of which is for the Skeleton Army. Skeleton Army has always been a strong card for countering tanks or other ground troops, but now it’s even better. In this article, I’ll take a quick look at Skeleton Army’s evolution, how to get it, and then we’ll look at 3 good decks featuring it! Let’s get started by looking into what the evolution does in the first place.

What is Skeleton Army’s Evolution?

The Skeleton Army evolution is one of the best ones we’ve gotten in a while. It takes the normal Skeleton Army and gives them a leader/general. Whenever the army is near the general, they’re indestructible and untargetable. This even works if you split them across the arena. The only way to take out the Army is to kill the general, so it makes it a lot stronger. Where in the past the Army could be easily countered with something like the Log or troops like Valkyrie, now they have a much better chance of survival. Plus, it’s pretty easy to cycle through them to get to an evolved version since Skeleton Army is so helpful even if you just play it in the middle of the field.

The evolved Skeleton Army is definitely stronger, but it hasn’t changed the card’s role much. It’s still best for defending against high-HP troops, but it’s more versatile now. Since it’s harder to take out the Army now, they can be used to counter more troops. Plus, it’s much easier to connect them to enemy towers. So, while they do work better for more offensive roles now, the main appeal of the evolution is how much harder the Army is to wipe out.

How to Get Skeleton Army’s Evolution?

If you want to get Skeleton Army’s evolution, your options are the same as usual. First, let’s look at the free-to-play ways to get it. You can always use Evolution Shards to create the 6 shards you need for any evolution, including Skeleton Army. You can get Evolution Shards from various sources, but they’re most common as Season Pass rewards (on the free and paid sides) or as event rewards. Make sure to do all the events that pop up so you get these rare resources.

There are also sometimes events which give specific Evolution Shards, and you could get the Skeleton Army shards like that. However, these events are pretty rare and you never know what evolution will be featured. Due to the limited ways to get Skeleton Army, the main way most people will end up unlocking it is by paying. This season, you can get the Skeleton Army evolution by purchasing the Season Pass, so that’s the easiest way. I will say that the Season Pass is easily the most valuable thing you can spend real money on in Clash Royale, so the rewards are worth the cost. However, I also don’t like that Supercell forces the Pass so hard. Alas, that ship sailed nearly a decade ago.

3 Best Evo Skeleton Army Decks

As with any new card, there have to be some decks designed to use it. Here are 3 great Skeleton Army Evolution decks that I’ve found and/or made. I found most of them on RoyaleAPI, but also modified them where I thought best. These decks all have the potential to take you quite far, especially since Skeleton Army is so strong right now in general.

Skeleton Army + Furnace/Royal Hogs/Giant Skeleton

Brett Moss / Supercell

I’m a big fan of this Skeleton Army deck for two reasons. The first is that I love any excuse to play Giant Skeleton. Even though he’s not as strong as in the past, I still love trying to get his bomb as close to enemy towers as possible. The second is how strong Royal Hogs are. Even though there are a lot of buildings in the current meta, Royal Hogs are still an incredibly consistent way to deal tower damage. The main goal of this deck is to use Royal Hogs whenever possible, then use defensive troops like Giant Skeleton and Skeleton Army to make sure opponents can’t do anything.

Furnace as the second evolution in this deck works really well since it’s so good at supporting a Giant Skeleton push. Even though I don’t really consider Giant Skeleton a win con, it’s still possible to use it as one. I usually use it to distract/block ground troops then blow up whatever gets past him, but Furnace allows it to push. If you get Giant Skeleton near a tower before it dies, the bomb it drops will deal tower damage. And it deals a lot of it. At level 11, Giant Skeleton’s bomb does 1,070 tower damage (less to troops)–nearly a third or fourth of a tower’s HP.

This deck is all about defending with Giant Skeleton and using the Army, Furnace, Goblin Guide, and the Fisherman to help. Then Royal Hogs can handle all the tower damage. Big pushes with Giant Skeleton at the front are a great asset, so don’t be afraid to try and make them. Especially in double elixir.

Skeleton Army + Wall Breakers

Skeleton Army + Wall Breakers Deck
Brett Moss / Supercell

This is a more aggressive deck than the first, and it’s entirely thanks to Wall Breakers. Wall Breakers necessitate a fast pace, as you’ll want to play them as often as possible. It’s so easy to do tower damage with them, and since you can play them so often, it’s more than enough to overwhelm many opponents. Wall Breakers have proven to be one of the best win cons in Clash Royale over the last couple years, especially since the evolution was added. This deck also has Miner to help make sure Wall Breakers connect, or to cover for any other push you might try.

The key troop in this deck is Skeleton King. In addition to dealing melee splash damage and spawning Skeletons himself, he’s also a really strong tank. While this deck mostly plays cheap troops that die pretty easily, Skeleton King is an exception. He’s essential for defending, as he’s able to handle most ground troops either by himself or with his skeletons’ help. Then we have cards like Skeleton Army, Minions, and Goblin Hut to help defend. Miner can also be used in a pinch for defending if needed.

This deck is really all-in on Wall Breakers. If your opponent is playing a deck that counters them easily, you’ll have to rely on Miner, Poison, and Skeleton King to try and break through. I’d recommend just playing Wall Breakers every single time they’re available while focusing most of your attention on defense.

Skeleton Army + Royal Giant

Skeleton Army + Royal Giant Deck
Brett Moss / Supercell

Royal Giant is one of my favorite evolutions since it deals so much damage, and also because the knock back effect is satisfying to watch as it clears out swarms with ease. Skeleton Army works really well with Royal Giant, and the evolved version is even better for helping it. The evolved Skeleton Army is perfect for backing up Royal Giant since it is hard to counter and takes out most counters for Royal Giant. If your opponent uses their own Skeleton Army or other swarm to fight the Royal Giant, your own is the perfect way to keep him alive.

Skeleton King also returns for this deck since he’s so strong on defense as well as making counter pushes, and Mother Witch is perfect for countering swarms. Fisherman is just generally good right now, and so are Zappies. Plus, Zappies are also really strong for supporting Royal Giant and defending it from cards like Inferno Dragon and Mighty Miner.
